Chapter Seven

On page 58, when Otter first observed the locomotive, he thought to himself, So this is going to make the Middle Kingdom strong.  What did he mean by that?  What is the connection to his homeland, the Middle Kingdom?

  1. I think that he might have thought that it looked different than he pictured or he was just saying now he knows what is going to make the middle kingdom strong. I think the connection to the middle kingdom and his homeland is that they are both trying to set china free from the manchus.

  2. I think that Otter is trying to say that the locomotive is different than he pictured and it's sort of neat how it will do the work of a hundred water buffalo and how it will help china.

  4. Well, in Otters homeland China they don't have locomotives so Otter was Probably thinking it would make trading easier and faster.
