Chapter Eight

When Otter almost pulled the sack of rice off the sledge (page 68), he said,  "As I stared down at the river, I thought, Well, now you know what your life is worth over here."  What did he mean by that?

  1. I think he meant that his life isn't worth more than a sack of rice because the leader was saying to get the rice sack before it fell and didn't even care about Otter.

  2. That he isn't very popular or worth much there and it surprised him and the sack of rice has the same value as himself.

  8. I think that they don't really care about the chinese because thay are just doing work for them so nobody cares about them.
